Dr Mahoney has over 20 years of experience providing compassionate, individualized and evidence-based therapy for individuals, couples or families seeking to improve their mental health and overcome life's challenges. She specializes in recovery from anxiety, depression and trauma.
With authenticity and compassion I create a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for my clients, treating each individual with the dignity, care and respect they deserve. I maintain a small practice to allow for consistent availability. I support the mental health community by also providing Clinical Supervision for practicing Clinicians.
I take a holistic biopschyosocial approach to therapy, considering the physical, emotional, and social factors that can impact mental health. My goal is to help my clients develop the skills and resilience they need to navigate life's challenges. Some may find that some of the communication, coping or survival skills they learned early in life no longer serve them.
I have specialized training in a variety of areas, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, extreme grief, phobia, anger issues, addiction recovery, recovery from disempowering relationships, cultural competency, trauma-informed care and LGBTQI sexuality or gender identity concerns.
Stress management sessions are designed to teach clients practical skills and strategies to manage stress more effectively. I help clients identify the sources of their stress and develop coping mechanisms to reduce its impact on their daily lives.
Anxiety treatment sessions are designed to help clients overcome anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and post traumatic stress disorder. I use evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence based treatments to help clients address their symptoms and develop long-term coping skills.
Depression treatment sessions are designed to help clients overcome depression and improve their mental health and well-being. I use evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), to help clients address their symptoms and develop long-term coping skills.
Life transitions sessions help clients navigate major life situations such as marital crisis, family conflicts, divorce, retirement, or career challenges and changes. I provide clients with the support and guidance they need to move through these transitions with confidence and clarity.
Self-esteem and confidence sessions help clients build a positive self-image and develop greater confidence in themselves and their abilities. I help clients identify negative habits, coping mechanism, self-talk and belief patterns and replace them with more positive, adaptive and empowering ones.
Mind-body wellness sessions help clients cultivate greater awareness of the mind-body connection and develop practices to support their overall health and well-being. I encourage and support a range of mind-body techniques, such as mindfulness, yoga, tapping and meditation, to help clients reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance their overall quality of life.
Trauma therapy sessions are designed to help clients heal from the effects of trauma, such as PTSD, childhood abuse, and sexual assault. I use evidence-based treatments, such as trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), to help clients process their trauma and develop coping skills to manage symptoms.
Addiction recovery sessions are designed to help clients overcome substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors. I use evidence-based treatments, such as motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), to help clients identify triggers, develop coping skills, and maintain sobriety.
Grief and loss sessions help clients process the emotional pain of losing a loved one or experiencing other significant losses. I provide clients with a supportive and compassionate space to express their feelings and work through the grieving process.
Cultural identity sessions help clients explore their cultural identity and its impact on their mental health and well-being. I help clients understand the ways in which their cultural background shapes their beliefs and values, and work with them to develop strategies to manage cultural stressors and build resilience.
LGBTQ+ issues sessions are designed to provide a safe and supportive space for LGBTQ+ individuals to explore the unique challenges they face. I work with clients to address issues such as coming out, family and relationship dynamics, and discrimination, and provide them with the tools they need to build a fulfilling and authentic life.
Parenting support sessions provide parents with the tools and strategies they need to navigate the challenges of raising children. I help parents develop effective communication skills, set boundaries, and build healthy relationships with their children.

I provide psychotherapy to people who have difficulties involving interpersonal relationships,inner conflicts or pain, self-regulation or coping.
These difficulties may also involve anxiety, depression, trauma, communication problems, phobias, panic attacks, sleep problems, concentration problems, extreme grief, sexual problems, eating disorders, anger issues, self mutilation and/or substance abuse.
One common element of each of our lives is that we all are required to manage difficult situations or events. Some of those situations will be minor stresses while others will be major traumatic emotional stresses. Some people are able to navigate these stressful events while retaining balance and clarity in their life because they ask for and receive adequate support. Others struggle to survive both past and present stresses and feel unable to manage their life and those experiences in the way that they would like. These people may benefit from a genuine connection with a trained supportive person who can guide them to a better understanding of their own strengths while enhancing their self-regulation and interpersonal skills.
We adopt ways of relating to others and coping with stress through our early life experiences. Unfortunately, sometimes the interpersonal skills and coping skills that we have learned in the past may no longer be helpful in addressing our present stressors and situations.
In a therapeutic relationship you are able to share your thoughts and feelings with a trusted, caring, non-judgmental person. While in therapy you are able to enhance interpersonal skills as well as evaluate the thoughts, feelings and behaviors that influence your present quality of life. Therapy provides you with enhanced skills to effectively address and embrace present day experiences.
In my practice I use client centered, strength based, biopsychosocial, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral treatment approaches.
I believe we all can be exactly who we want to be as long as we have the right supports in our life.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes long, but I may adjust the duration based on your needs and circumstances. Session take place virtually through Zoom or Facetime.
I am an out-of-network provider, but I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Dr Mahoney is located in CT and is able to provide Telehealth therapy (consistent with the PSYPACT legislation) to Clients living in CT as well as AL, AZ, AR, CO, CNMI, DE, DC, FL,GA ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NC, OH, OK, PA, RI,SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV, WI, and WY.
